Interesting story

This read left me wishing for better. The author, a naval combat pilot, by his own account, seems selfish and self centered in his personal conduct. His wife was a saint for putting up with him.

The book just ends when his ship is sent home for repairs. It would have added a lot to have the account take us to the end of the war. It would have also been a plus to have to hear how his life has gone since the end of WWII.

Finally, the book needs better editing. Words are misspelled, in other cases the wrong word is used, and the tense of verbs is not what it should be.

I am glad I made the effort to read this, but sorry it wasn't a more professional job.

Slow reading ...

As a former military aviator who experienced all the personal problems of being away from family for extended periods of time, that part of the Berg's book took up too much space. Granted, military life for married people is not by any means easy. Realize also that the name of this book is, "My Carrier War." The author might have included, "and My Family" in the title.
Nevertheless, I read the book from beginning to end and I can certainly understand the stress and anxiety that the author experienced having to balance his love for aviation, as a fighter pilot, and his love for his wife and family. More carrier war experiences and I would have added one or two more stars.

Just not enjoyable

I finally made it through this book but it was a struggle. Whatever I was expecting, I did not get. I know combat is frightening but Berg overdoes it. He wants to go home after a few months at sea and some - but I couldn't tell how many - combat missions. His experience falls way short of what the boots on the ground suffered. Overall, I expected more about carrier operations and missions than what he gave. Save your money for something better.
