Doyle is back???????????

If you like Sherlock Holmes then meet the best and most worthy successor to Doyle's authorship. Vaughan is one of, if not the best, writer of Holmes. He captures Doyle's characters perfectly. For some time while reading I thought that, perhaps, I was reading a lost manuscript. Vaughan is that good. Kudos.
The plot is excellent and goes places you do not expect.

Sherlock Holmes in the Twilight Zone

The main content of this book - approximately 60% of the total - is one story, which while interesting, is not your typical Holmes story. In it, Watson is replaced by a new inspector from Scotland Yard. He is one you are not familiar with, the main reason being that the author intends to kill him off, and would not have gotten away with it if it had been Watson. The banter between Inspector Kent and Holmes is also not what you'd expect in a banter between Holmes and Watson. In fact, another reason why Kent is here is to give credence to the creation side of the conflict between God and evolution. So, not only is this story somewhat of a rant against evolution, but also, a very far-fetched bit of science fiction, most of which already exists and is simply added to. Furthermore, the author loves to use words that were never used by Holmes/Watson, especially their ancient and non-British concepts. For example, a "chesterfield" is a sofa to a Canadian. Regardless of the wide latitude taken by the writer, this story is fairly riveting. However, the 40% of the content that follows it is very loosely related to the Holmes content we all love... like the one about Holmes/Watson against the Martian war machines. Well, if you can justify paying the asking fee for this book when it really is only 60% associated with Sherlock Holmes, you will enjoy this respite from the usual fare.

Super Sherlock

Well worth reading more than once. An interesting look at moving about in your own time stream, and what might the personal cost be. Of the other stories most were pretty good and those that I disliked were probably more a reflection of my personal tastes than the author's skill. The Dog that liked Sherlock is a neat story that was fun. The housekeeper viewpoint is probably the low point.
